Still Ticking

Just a short note to inform the public that yes, I am still chugging along. I guess I've been a ward of Governor Schwarzenegger and California now for about a month and what have I learned?

-- The California DMV takes the vision test very seriously. I need to see an eye doctor before I can get my driver's license.

-- If you want to make money in California, become a notary public. You get paid $10 per signature and you will be in high demand since banks don't keep notaries on staff.

-- While most everything costs exactly the same in California as it does in Minnesota, you have to save money to see a movie. Matinee tickets are $8.50, regular admission is $10.50. There are no discounts, unless you happen to be older than 65.

-- Avocados are everywhere and they are awesome. Oranges, however, are hard to find. So is Mexican food. Where oh where is my beloved Old El Paso brand enchilada sauce and Kuner jalapeno refried beans? Rosarita just doesn't cut it.

-- Tennis is much easier to play now than when I was in high school. Me and Chad are superstars!

-- Earthquakes are apparently no big deal. We had a big one here the other night and I just slept right on through.
